The Choral Music program at St. John Paul II Catholic High School affords each student the opportunity of realizing the importance of music as an art form in our present world. The courses offered help students develop, not only their performance and listening skills, but also their self-confidence and self-direction.
St. John Paul II Catholic High School currently offers Vocal Music I.
VOCAL MUSIC I:
This class provides training in proper vocal technique and studies in music theory and sight-reading. The ensemble performs at two major concerts each year: the Christmas Concert and the Spring Concert. The group also performs at such events as school liturgies, masses at local parishes and concerts at area schools. In addition, students have many optional opportunities to perform, including the Alabama All-State Chorus, Honor Choir and Solo/Ensemble contest.
The Choral Music program at St. John Paul II Catholic High School is under the direction of Dorene Gullatt. Mrs. Gullatt is a native of Huntsville and has been teaching music and dance to students for over 25 years. She earned her B. A. in Music Vocal Performance and Music Education from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. She is also certified to teach Kindermusik - an early childhood music and movement curriculum. Mrs. Gullatt has participated in and directed numerous choirs of all ages and sizes and continues to be an active musician today. She enjoys singing with the adult chancel choir and leading children's choirs at her church in Madison, Alabama. Mrs. Gullatt has been an active member of Dance Masters of America and certified to teach ballet, tap and jazz. She has participated in and choreographed many pieces for local community shows and competitions. Mrs. Gullatt has been in Catholic education since 1995. She enjoys influencing the lives of many students and encouraging students of all ages to use and develop their gifts from God.
