JPII Awards of Distinction

The 2013 Senior Dinner honoring the graduating class of 2013 was held last Thursday, May 16 at The Westin. The following awards were conferred to outstanding JPII Seniors: The Alice I. Hession Academic Award (Zachary Sellers); The Bro. Benedict Stoegbauer, S.D.S. Community Service Award (John Hoekenschnieder); The Rev. Louis Giardino Religion Award (Dylan Jedlovec); The Linda Bifulco Athletic Award (Stephen Leahy); The Ed Manlove Falcon Flight Award (Aaron Brown and Mary Pittman); and The Dana Bathurst Fine Arts Award (Abby Wright).

Rocket Science

For the first time JPII formed teams to participate in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC). The teams have been perfecting their rockets all year and 2 of the teams have qualified for the national competition. Good luck to these scientists as they travel near Washington, D.C. on May 11.

Academy Appointments

Two JPII seniors were recently appointed and accepted into military academies. Cory was appointed to West Point and Noah was appointed to the Air Force Academy. Congratulations and Good Luck.

Go Girls

The girl's track team finished 2nd in the sectional meet this weekend. Both the boys and girls will compete in the state meet May 3rd & 4th. UPDATE: The girl's soccer team advanced to the third round of the state playoffs. They will play at the UAH Soccer Complex Saturday, May 4th at 2:00 pm. $6.00 admission.

Courtyard Engraved Brick Unveiling

A ribbon cutting ceremony opened the engraved brick patio reception in JPII's courtyard. Attendees were treated to food and fellowship as they located engraved bricks dedicated to family members, students, faculty, alumni, and clergy.

Congratulations

The baseball team made history this year by being the first JPII baseball team to qualify for the state playoffs by finishing 2nd in Class 4A Area 14. Although they had a first round loss to Madison County, we are proud of their accomplishments this season.
 

Girl's Soccer #1

For the first time in JPII history, the Lady Falcons ended the season in first place in Area 15, Class 1A-4A. They will host the first round of the substate playoff on April 27 at UAHuntsville - time TBA. General admission is $6.00 and all Falcon Fans are encouraged to come support the team. 

Once Upon a Mattress

The JPII drama department presented 3 performances of the musical Once Upon a Mattress. Over 250 people attended the production in the the Multipurpose Room on April 19th & 20th. Students in drama, technical theater, band and art contributed to the memorable presentation.
 

Blood Drive

The National Honor Society sponsored an American Red Cross blood drive in the library on April 9. The third drive of the year included students, faculty, staff and parents. At the end of the day, they collected 28 pints to help those in our area.

Incoming Freshman

JPII was filled with incoming freshman attending an information session hosted by the Guidance Office. The students and parents were informed about course selection and visited with current students to learn about the clubs and activities that they can participate in once they become Falcons. JPII will be welcoming 110 students for the class of 2017.

Way of the Cross

The JPII Campus Ministry shared their interpretation of the Stations of the Cross to kick off the Easter Triduum. The group shared their meditation three times on Wednesday. Students from the feeder schools watched the morning performance while the entire JPII student body attended in the afternoon. The entire community was invited to an evening presentation.
