A Charlie Brown Christmas 2018
On Friday, December 7, 2018, the St. John Paul II Catholic High School drama students performed A Charlie Brown Christmas for partner school students. This is the second year the JPII Theater department has performed this Christmas classic. Students from St. John’s, Holy Spirit and Holy Family Catholic schools attended the performance.  The attendees were able to have group photos taken with the cast and each student received a Charlie Brown puzzle as they exited the play.
Spencer Records 100th Win!

JPII kicked off their 2018-19 wrestling season this past weekend at the Annual Huntsville Invitational Tournament. Jayson Spencer recorded his 100th career victory; the Falcons recorded their highest finish ever. The 28-team field featured the 7A State Dual Champion, 7A State Individual Tournament Champion, 1A-5A State Dual and Individual Tournament Champion, 1A-5A Individual Tournament Runner-Up, and the 6A State Team Champion.

Jayson Spencer (Sr, 160lbs, 4th in AHSAA) easily navigated his way into the finals with 4 wins - 3 falls and a major decision - before dropping  a heart-breaker in the finals to finish 2nd to the top ranked wrestler in AHSAA.   In his first match of the season (and tournament), Spencer used a 1st period fall to record his 100th career varsity victory, a remarkable individual wrestling milestone!

Gerry McCarron (Sr, 170, 2nd in AHSAA) also recorded 4 wins - 2 by fall and 2 by decision - before nearly overcoming a controversial final 30 seconds and losing 7-6 to, again, the overall #1 ranked wrestler in AHSAA.  He also finished second in the tournament.

The Delany Brothers, Gabby (Jr, 182) and Diego (Sr, 160), continued to impress in only their second seasons by both going 3-2 in the tournament and securing 4 pins between the 2 wrestlers.  Luke Weaver (Sr, 145l, Thomas Byers (Jr, 152), Joe Skarupa (Jr, 220), Chris Stokes (Sr, 220), Joseph Nicolle (So, 132) and  Gavin Faulds (So, 285) all recorded victories for the Falcons to help the team to a 15th place finish in the team standings, the highest ever at the tournament.  7A State Champion, Bob Jones, won the tournament.

In the 7th-9th Grade event, Callie Messer (8th-HF, 112) went 2-3 to place 6th while Thomas Daly (8th-SJ, 119) also recorded a victory.

The Falcons open their Team Dual season on December 6th at 1A-5A New Hope where they face New Hope and 7A powerhouse, Grissom.   On December 11th at 6PM, JP2 will host their first home duals against 1A-5A Madison County and 7A State Champion Bob Jones. Doors open at 5PM with wrestling starting at 6PM.

Graduates Visit JPII

Two graduates of JPII stopped by earlier this week to visit with various classes and discuss the experience of attending West Point Military Academy. Cadets Brendan Huhlein and John Boyer discussed the many career opportunities available and we sat down with them for a little interview.
