Laurie Porter received a B.S. in Chemistry with minors in math and music from the University of Montevallo. She then attended UAB where she earned a master's degree in Secondary Chemistry Education. Besides teaching high school science, she has worked in biomedical research at UAB and as a research and development engineer at Avex Electronics. She is currently in her 13th year at JPII teaching AP Chemistry and Chemistry and this year will be the fifth year she has offered a Summer Chemistry Camp for junior high students. She also accompanies the Concert Choir for concerts and competitions, Broken and Shared choir for masses, and is the organist at Grace Presbyterian Church. She is blessed with a wonderful husband and three energetic sons who lovingly support her busy schedule. Her goal is to get the students excited about understanding God’s wonder-filled creation through the principles and concepts of chemistry and to inspire them to worship together though joyful music and song.
